LGBTQ+ Family Building

Family planning can bring challenges for everyone and members of the LGBTQ+ community face specific hurdles on their family building journey. Our experienced fertility specialists at NewLIFE Fertility are here to guide you. We’ll work with you to create a personalized plan that aligns with your unique circumstances.

We advise our LGBTQ+ patients to seek the advice of an attorney who specializes in assisted reproduction technologies (ARTs) and the related Gulf Coast state laws on embryos, surrogacy, adoption, and LGBTQ+ rights. We can recommend experienced attorneys.

Family Building Services for the LGBTQ+ Community

Every family’s journey is unique. The fertility specialists at NewLIFE Fertility create personalized treatment plans that reflect your specific goals and needs while providing compassionate care and support every step of the way.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) with Donor Sperm

In vitro fertilization (IVF) involves multiple procedures to fertilize an egg with sperm outside the body. Fertilization is done using a laboratory Petri dish and the resulting embryos are then evaluated. The most highly graded embryo is transferred back into the uterus to potentially create a pregnancy.

Research has clearly demonstrated that, in most cases, IVF holds the greatest promise of successful pregnancy per month, more than any other intervention.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) with Donor Sperm

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) involves placing sperm directly into the uterus. This treatment is less invasive and less expensive than IVF and can be an ideal choice for same-sex female couples or individuals. The process begins with medication to stimulate ovulation. On the day of insemination, the donor sperm is prepared and inserted into the uterus using a flexible catheter.

Fertility Preservation

For those undergoing a transition or treatments or surgeries that affect fertility, preserving your semen, eggs, or embryos through cryopreservation gives you the opportunity to have biologically related children in the future if you’re not ready right now.

Family Building for Transgender Couples and Individuals

We offer fertility preservation and family-building services tailored to the unique needs of transgender patients. Our fertility specialists can advise patients on the available options and reproductive services needed.

Using a Sperm Donor

Sperm donations play a crucial role for many LGBTQ+ couples and individuals looking to grow their families. You have two main options for sperm donation:

Third-Party Sperm Bank

A third-party sperm bank offers a wide selection of donors. Our clinic handles all the medical and coordination aspects to make this process as smooth as possible.

Directed Sperm Donation

Directed sperm donation involves using a known or unknown donor directly. Currently, we do not offer directed sperm donation at any NewLIFE Fertility locations.

Using a Surrogate or Egg Donor

NewLIFE Fertility supports all members of the LGBTQ+ community in your family building goals. However, Florida’s strict surrogacy laws currently prevent our practice from providing the full range of reproductive services to couples in need of a gestational carrier surrogate.

Our team is familiar with the laws across the Gulf Coast states and can help you navigate them as you discover the right path for you to grow your family.

Considerations for Couples Assigned Male at Birth (AMAB)

To have a biologically related child, couples in which both individuals were assigned male at birth (AMAB) will need an egg donor and a surrogate to carry the pregnancy for them. At this time, Florida laws require that both intended parents be genetically related to their child, so a gestational surrogate may be legally inaccessible for some couples.
