IVF vs IUI

If you are unable to or have been struggling to conceive naturally, NewLIFE Fertility can assist you in growing your family. As part of our advanced fertility treatments, we offer both IVF and IUI for our patients. Before starting your fertility treatment with us, you can learn about their differences here.

IVF vs IUI

IVF vs IUI: Assisted Reproductive Technology

IVF and IUI are both forms of assisted reproductive technology (ART) performed by fertility clinics to improve the chances of a successful pregnancy. Our fertility specialists are board-certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) and are experienced in recommending and implementing fertility treatments.

For couples or individuals who need assistance having children, IVF and IUI may be right for them:

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

The IVF process involves fertilizing an egg outside of the body. Our fertility specialists will need to retrieve mature eggs through a short, in-office procedure. Before the procedure, we’ll prescribe a medication to increase the number of eggs that a woman produces. This process is called ovarian stimulation, and it is achieved through self-administered injections that increase egg production and allow our specialists to retrieve several mature eggs through a short, minimally invasive procedure.

Once mature eggs have been collected, our specialists will fertilize them in our state-of-the-art laboratory using either the partner’s sperm or a donor’s sperm. We will then transfer the 5-day fertilized embryo into the uterus, where it will continue to develop.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Similar to IVF, the IUI process is a form of reproductive assistance that can help a woman become pregnant. Using a sample of concentrated sperm, our fertility specialists will insert it directly into the uterus to accelerate fertilization.

A semen sample is concentrated in our lab to separate motile—or moving—sperm, which improves the likelihood of it successfully fertilizing an egg. This can be done using a partner’s sperm or a donor, and our specialists may prescribe fertility medication to increase egg production.

IVF or IUI: Which is Right for Me?

Fertility treatments are a big investment, both emotionally and financially. That’s why the NewLIFE Fertility specialists are highly skilled and experienced. We’ll provide honest and comprehensive testing, recommendations, and support as you navigate your fertility journey.

Depending on your age, background, health, and fertility, we may recommend IVF or IUI. IUI is a relatively quick process that can be used to address unexplained infertility in both men and women. It is also effective for helping women and LGBTQ+ individuals have a baby using a sperm donor.

IVF can be used to address infertility in women and men as well as prevent numerous genetic disorders. While this process may be more time-consuming and costly compared to IUI, it can help various couples and individuals successfully have a baby.
